Earlier this month our front-end team made the short Metro journey from our base in Sunderland to Frontend NE: The Conference.
Taking place at Wylam Brewery in Exhibition Park, Frontend NE: The Conference marked the third anniversary of Frontend North East, the local monthly meetup for front-end developers in Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
An impressive line-up of speakers, which included industry experts Val Head, Christian Heilmann and Leonie Watson to name but a few, covered a wide breadth of topics such as web animation, accessibility and mental health.
We thought we’d share a few of our highlights:
Front-end Developer, Sarah Allen, particularly enjoyed Val Head’s talk ‘Choose Your Animation Adventure’.
“I really enjoyed Val’s talk. She gave a great overview of the different approaches to web animation, and her enthusiasm for her craft definitely made me think more about how we could introduce further animation into our own projects—plus she had a flying cat!”
By approaching a web application as a tree of components rather than discrete pages, the team have created a more testable, maintainable and reliable codebase.
My personal favourite talk was ‘A Red LEGO Brick is Always Red’, where Jack Franklin gave a good insight into the work being done by the team at Thread. By approaching a web application as a tree of components rather than discrete pages, the team have created a more testable, maintainable and reliable codebase.
Following the conference we then headed over to Lane7 for the official after-party, where the organisers had hired the whole place for some bowling, ping pong and mini-golf!
Congrats to Sam, Martin and Colin, and their team of volunteers for a delivering a hugely successful event.
